It is that time of the year again, we are half-way through February and this is the time to step back into studies. I have been working since the 1st January, and will continue to do so. I just have a new strategy to help build the memory.
Taking note, I will begin with the subjects separated. That way we can see how the strategy works. After the first 2 subjects we will take the future subjects 2 at a time, then 3 at a time. Yeah, we study 3 subjects at a time (Functional Programming, Differential Geometry, and Real Analysis would be together for example).
In the discussions I had, I need to start with the easiest strategy, which happens to feel like Functional Programming. For the next studying, it looks as if it will be Web Technology and Real Analysis for having 2 subjects at the same time. Differential Geometry will be tested on its own after Functional Programming.
The principles are slightly different to all my studying attempts last year, which is why I will stick to them for at least 3 months before I can come back and say how it is going.
- Day 1: Go to lecture, take notes
- Day 1 (later): Rewrite notes, summarize what we wrote
- Day 2: Go through yesterdays notes, rewrite if needed
- Day 8 (aka. next week, same day): Go through last week’s day’s notes again, rewrite if needed
- Month Later: Go through what happened on this day last month
As you can see, we go through the same work 4 times in a month (that includes the lecture), then in the next month we just refresh those memories for ourselves.
Until I have some thoughts after doing this for a few weeks, I will not completely know how it will go. It will most likely pay off for me, since I have a little bit of experience with this method.
With certain personal projects, I have done similar things and it has paid off. Among that is the fact that I can easily work with databases again, I didn’t think of it when I started. Monday, I went through documentation. Turned out I just double checked it on Tuesday. The very next week Monday I didn’t trust myself so I went through the documentation again. This is roughly 2 to 3 weeks later and I am still constantly comfortable with my database work.
