New Camera: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W800

Spread the love
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W800

As people can understand, when you have a hobby it is at times a great idea to invest in a little to contribute to it. This time, it came from my love of random photography. When one of our orchards blooms? Photos. When I’m in a game reserve? Photos.

I picked up a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W800 for myself today. I looked around at what I could fit in my budget, and it fit my requirements without any troubles.

Firstly, A Few Photos

Images are scaled down from 20.1MP to show here, I can share in full resolution in the future photos I will take.

These were half taken on my adjusted settings I share below, and half from the defaults. I must note, the default settings were interesting, so I may use them at times. I just made sure it was simple for me to use my camera.

Config For Thoughts

The simplest thing to share is I will most likely use these as default settings unless the picture shown after I snap a photo needs adjustments. Sure, I haven’t tested video, I’ll just test that in a more interesting circumstance than my garden.

  • Shooting Mode: Still Image
  • Still Shooting Scene: Program Auto
  • Still Image Size: 4:3, 20M
  • Exposure Compensation: 0
  • ISO: ISO 400
  • WB: Auto
  • Focus: Center AF
  • Metering Mode: Spot
  • Cont. Shooting Settings: Single Shooting
  • Face Detection: Off
  • DRO: Off
  • Movie Size: 720p

For more details you can take a look at the full camera specifications. Similarly they share more about DRO, I just need to take time to get used to it before I use it.

This camera choice had two simple preferences:

  • Larger than 15MP photos
  • I would love it to be pocket size

You can note from that it is an awesome 20.1MP and at less than 97mm/60mm/22mm (roughly) in dimensions it is pocket sized for me. This can be something simple to take around to do anything I want and I can take photos.

The SDHC card I use for storage is a neat 16Gb and I can take over a rough 1800 photos without storage space troubles. Each of the images are roughly near 8mb each at the 20.1MP first tests.

The funniest side, being the geek I am, I have tons of places where I can use the USB connection for charging and copying photos off to my advantage. I can simply take my laptop along and get them quickly, use my laptop to even charge it if I want to, and I can use the general USB charging points in general. I find that quite useful.

I have interests in the way I chose to use it by default, but I wont ever change Still Image Size, and would prefer to keep a simple way to focus using Center AF for myself. That being said, I figured I would share this since I’d love to hear more suggestions for everyone for how I can get the general defaults I use to be better in general.

In a similar fashion, I figure I’m going to brush up on my knowledge of ideas for my photography. Fun times are on their way!
